Vista del Lago

Our new high school is a perfect example of our tax dollars at work. If you haven’t walked around the campus you should go see what it is all about. I attended American River College and it doesn’t even hold a candle to this school.

It is a beautiful campus that looks more like a college campus than a high school. The students actually have a student lounge that I am sure rivals the teachers’ lounge!

I met a couple the other day that recently moved to Folsom just so their son could attend Vista because of it’s reputation of quality computer classes. It’s a good thing the school isn’t all about looks but academics too.

The athletic fields look as if they should be hosting the summer Olympics. It is a shame they aren’t heating the pool. What a waste.

However, the city and the school district were very forward thinking in building a library that is used by not only the students but the general public. It is a very good example of sharing resources and still being able to provide the residents with quality facilities and not raising taxes. Maybe more projects like that can be instituted within the city limits.

I understand the school will be used this summer for summer school so it doesn’t sit empty during the summer months.

I hope the students know how lucky they are and treat the school with the utmost respect. They will one day be taxpayers who will want their taxes kept to as minimal as possible.

My home office overlooks the high school. I can honestly say I enjoy hearing the kids during their PE class out on the football field giggling as they play flag football. On the other hand I understand neighbors that live even closer to the school are concerned about the lights at night during football season.

This fall there will be juniors, sophomores and freshmen at the school. The first senior class won’t graduate until 2010. So, that most likely means there won’t be too many night games for another year. Go Eagles!

Blogging is a way to attend a cocktail party but not actually be at someone else’s home. In this fast paced life we lead it is sometimes nice to sit at home, relax and still feel like you can still participate in various things throughout the area in which you live. My goal is to have this blog accomplish just that. With your help I hope it becomes a voice of not only Folsom and our surrounding communities such as El Dorado Hills, Rancho Cordova, Fair Oaks, perhaps Sacramento to name a few.

It won’t just be about real estate although I am sure that will be a topic discussed often but also about what is happening in the local schools, city politics, shopping , restaurants , employment, local getaways and activities -- in fact, we can discuss whatever you like. So, visit often and comment without feeling as if you are being judged. You only need to be you.

So, welcome to FolsomLivingBlog.com. It’s about all of us and our community!
